It always seems towards the end of the year everyone is
lining up outside their local garage to get their Pa state vehicle inspection done
before the new year hits. Considering, the state of Pennsylvania requires every
vehicle to be inspected for safety and emissions yearly to keep safe driving
standards and to cut down on air pollution.
Anyone who has a registered vehicle and is a resident in PA must get a yearly
inspection that includes a comprehensive safety inspection and some vehicles
are also required to have an emissions test done.
Not sure when your
vehicle was last inspected?
Check the date on your inspection sticker on your
windshield, which should coincide with your vehicle registration renewal. You have until the end of the month stated on
the sticker to get your inspection done, or you will be subject to a fine.
Not sure where to get
your vehicle inspected?
To get your Pennsylvania State Vehicle Inspection, you need
to go to an official PennDOT (Pennsylvania Department of Transportation)
inspection service station, and the person inspecting your vehicle must be
licensed also. Some of the items that need to be checked during a Pennsylvania
state vehicle inspection include: suspension components, steering, braking
systems, tires and wheels, mirrors, defroster, wipers, fuel systems, exhaust
systems and warning devices.
Do you need an
emissions test done, along with your safety inspection?
For most vehicles in the Philadelphia region including:
Bucks (Ottsville), Chester , Delaware,
Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, an ASM test or OBD II test is
required. Tailored to meet Pennsylvania’s specific air quality needs, the
emissions inspection program puts their attention on vehicle owner’s
convenience and choice.
